October 31:
Completing the Reformation
Light vs Darkness
Throughout history, October 31 has marked epic clashes between darkness and light — between deception and revelation, oppression and freedom, tyranny and truth.
Israel has always stood as “a light to the nations”, and in this generation, that calling is being tested and refined. The prophet Isaiah declared:
“I will make you a light for the nations, that My salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” — Isaiah 49:6
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. Darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and His glory appears over you.” — Isaiah 60:1–2
This event calls people of faith everywhere to choose light over darkness — truth over propaganda, courage over fear — and to recognize Israel’s enduring mission to bring hope and holiness to a world in turmoil.
Why October 31 matters
1917 — The Balfour Declaration (Original Draft, October 31)
On October 31, 1917, the original draft of the Balfour Declaration was completed and signed — two days before its public release. That draft, dated October 31, carried the words that would soon define history: Britain’s commitment to a Jewish homeland. This document, bearing Lord Balfour’s signature, was the political spark that helped ignite Israel’s physical restoration 31 years later in 1948.
1517 — The Reformation Begins
On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-five Theses to the church door in Wittenberg, Germany, igniting the Protestant Reformation — a movement that brought Scripture back into the hands of believers. Yet the Reformation remains unfinished. Late in life, Luther penned ten antisemitic edicts that contradicted his earlier devotion to the Word and spread a darkness that endured for centuries.
Luther’s Ten Commands (to be fully renounced):
• Burn synagogues and schools.
• Destroy Jewish homes and barns.
• Confiscate prayer books and the Talmud.
• Forbid rabbis to teach on pain of death.
• Deny them safe trade or travel.
• Confine them to ghettos.
• Seize their money and possessions.
• Force them into servitude.
• Expel them from Christian lands.
• Burn their writings and silence their worship.
These writings became seeds of European antisemitism that eventually fueled the Holocaust. To complete the Reformation, our generation must reject these dark roots and restore love for Israel and the Jewish people.
1898 — Kaiser Wilhelm II in Jerusalem
On October 31, 1898, the Kaiser dedicated the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem. His arrival was both diplomatic and symbolic — a moment of renewed global attention toward Zion, opening Jerusalem to the nations.
1917 — The Charge of Beersheba
That same day, the Australian and New Zealand Light Horse Brigade charged across the desert and captured Beersheba in one of the most daring cavalry attacks in modern warfare. This victory broke Ottoman control and opened the path to Jerusalem.
Relevance for today
Israel is again surrounded by danger on eight simultaneous fronts, confronting darkness in every form:
Gaza — Hamas terror, rocket fire, and the ongoing hostage crisis.
Lebanon — Hezbollah drone and missile barrages threatening the north.
Syria — Iranian-backed militia positions and cross-border attacks.
Judea & Samaria — coordinated terror cells and riots.
Iran — direct missile threats and nuclear escalation.
Red Sea / Houthis (Yemen) — naval and drone strikes disrupting Israeli trade.
Iraq (Badr Forces) — Iran-aligned militias launching rockets toward Israel.
Cyber & Information Warfare — a global campaign of digital manipulation, disinformation, and psychological warfare designed to isolate Israel and sow confusion.
Each front represents not only a military battle but also a spiritual war between light and darkness — between those who stand for truth and those who traffic in lies.
Ask a SoldieR the event
Ask a Soldier is more than a webinar — it’s a window into reality. I’ve personally served over 750 consecutive days of active deployment across multiple fronts of warfare and combat in one of the IDF’s elite units.
I’ll share reflections from those experiences — not classified operational details, but real-world lessons on faith, endurance, and brotherhood under fire.
I’ll also be joined by special guests — fellow soldiers and leaders — whose names I’ll announce later.
This moderated discussion will connect the physical battlefields of today with the prophetic timeline that began centuries ago.
OPSEC DISCLAIMER
For security reasons, no classified, tactical, or operational information will be shared. Questions of that nature will be respectfully skipped. This event focuses on moral insight, faith, and public knowledge. By attending, you agree not to record or redistribute without permission.
